GBE cleans Chandor Cavorim roadside garbage
In a two hour long effort 25 villagers of Chandor Cavorim filled up over 30 big black bags with plastic and paper lying by the roadside. The exercise was initiated by GBE and supported by Chandor Club, Chandor Guirdolim Veterans, Chandor Seamen Association, Guirdolim Club and Villa Marex. The drive started at 8:30 am and concluded at 10:30 am. The main road from Cotta bridge to deputy sarpanch Arlinda’s house at Bindimoll, Misamer and the market square were cleaned. The collected waste was disposed off through Goa Solid Waste Corporation and a similar drive will be done im Guirdolim on November 14. Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott supported by Rotary Club of Cuncolim organized a “fruit and Vegetable Preservation course for people of Chandor for three days which was attended by 22 people. The course was conducted by Gajanan Tari a former employee of the Food and Nutrition Board of the Central Ministry of Women and Child and he taught the participants six different items all recommended by the Central Food Technological Research Institute at Mysore. Spread out over three days, the participants were guided as they prepared lime cordial, chilli pickle, mixed fruit jam, lime peel pickle and tomato ketchup. Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott at its annual general body meeting held on 7th July 2018 unanimously elected a new Managing Committee headed by Julio D’Silva as the President. The elections were conducted by Felix Furtado who volunteered to be the Election Commissioner. It may be recalled that Julio D’Silva was the founder general secretary when the Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott was formally registered with the Registrar of Co-operative Societies 10 years ago and served as the general secretary till May 2015. His name was proposed by Michael Pereira and seconded by John D Coutinho. Maria Mascarenhas and Irene Antao were elected as the two vice presidents.
