Former Sarpanchas back in saddle  at Chandor-Cavorim, Guirdolim

Former sarpanchas have taken over the reins of the panchayats of the twin villages of Chandor-Cavorim and Guirdolim. While Estefanio Dias and Sonia Fernandes have become sarpanchas of Chandor-Cavorim and Guirdolim respectively. Nancy Antao has been elected the deputy sarpanch of Chandor-Cavorim and Guirdolim has Joao Peixote as its deputy sarpanch. Coincidentally, both panchayat members elected from ward No. 1 have become the deputy sarpanchas of the two villages. While Sonia, Joao and Estafanio were elected unopposed to their positions, Nancy was elected as Deputy Sarpanch of Chandor-Cavorim following voting as there was a contest for this post. Awareness on snakes and their bites

Over 100 people from the twin villages of Chandor Cavorim and Guirdolim were educated at length on snakes, snake bites and how to attend to such bites at a programme jointly organised by Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott, Chandor Club, Guirdolim Club and Chandor Seamen Association. Prominent snake rescuers and doctors shared their experiences and knowledge at the over 3 hour long session held at Chandor Club premises and all present not only remained rooted to their seats but also actively participated in the deliberations. It was revealed that of the around 90 species of snakes found in Goa, only four are venomous or poisonous while the others are harmless. The good news was that antidote or anti venom treatment is available for all the four poisonous snakes found in Goa....

Chandorkar present wish list to new MLA

Residents of the twin villages of Chandor-Cavorim and Guirdolim presented a “wish list” to their new MLA Yuri Alemao when he visited his office at Chandor. The wish list has 12 concerning the jurisdiction of Chandor-Cavorim, 15 issues pertaining to Guirdolim and seven demands that are common to both the villages. The “wish list” was presented on behalf of the villagers by office bearers of four NGOs operating in the two villages namely Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott, Chandor Club, Guirdolim Club and Chandor Seamen’s Association. The common demands to the two villages include a very vehement “NO” to transportation of coal through the two villages which they said will make the villages a coal hub and they also demanded that movement of heavy vehicles be banned...

The Chandor Seamen’s Association which was established on 15th August 1973, recently felicitated its founder members and also people from Chandor, Cavorim and Guirdolim playing the iconic brass instruments. CRZ fails to inspect river filling

Guirdolim and Chandor residents are upset with the Salcete Taluka Level Coastal Committee for its failure to carry out an inspection of CRZ violation in Guirdolim. Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott had complained to the Collector South that the railways had filled up a rivulet in Guirdolim and blocked its joining the Kushawati river. The complaint was forwarded to the Taluka Coastal Committee for necessary action by the Collector. Vide a letter dated 9th November Salcete Mamlatdar as Member Secretary of the Taluka Coastal Committee Salcete informed that the site. Inspection would be held on 12th November at 11 am. John Fernandes was unanimously elected President and Sita Antao the General Secretary of Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott, Chandor at the general body meeting held on Saturday.
