Improving Our Land – Ghotli in Cavorim
Even before Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott was registered, we had started working for the betterment of the village. One of the first projects to be undertaken was changing the desolate spot at Ghotli in Cavorim from where in earlier times a canoe service used to operate to take people across the river. The aim is to make it a picnic spot for the village. Government had acquired the land to construct a bridge which subsequently was shifted to another site. The land was totally engulfed with wild growth which was cleared and steps were constructed leading to the river.
The summer of 2008 saw a lot of people from Chandor, Cotta and Guirdolim visiting the spot and it truly turned into a picnic spot. Surprisingly some young boys who live in the vicinity saw the river for the first time. The entire construction was not only financed but even personally supervised by John Douglas Coutinho who has dedicated his work to his late parents Francisco Coutinho and Francisca Coutinho who was more popularly known as Fanny Teacher
