Senior Citizens have a blast
Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott held their annual Christmas Party for senior citizens of the village on 19th December 2016 at the Chandor Club premises. This year the party was a roaring success with 157 senior citizens participating. The entertainment provided at the party was truly mind blowing as it came entirely from the youngsters living in the village and though some of them are professionals, they performed entirely free for the senior citizens. Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott launched its late Adv. Joe Antao Memorial Talk on 25th September with a discussion on the topic “Dual Citizenship/Portuguese Passport” with former MLA Adv. At its meeting held on 2nd July 2016, Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott fondly remembered its President Joe Antao who passed away on 24th June 2016 after a brief illness. Members present shared their memories of Joe who was acknowledged for being a soft spoken person and none present ever recalled him raising his voice. Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott held its annual ladainha (litany) at the cross on the Ghottmorod hillock on 29th May 2016 and this year there were 42 persons participating besides the seven members of John Douglas’s staff who carried the refreshments up the hillock. While Anthony Pereira led the singing of the litany, the chorus was led by President Joe Antao who also said a short prayer towards the end of the litany. Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott organized a blood donation camp on 8th May at the Chandor-Cavorim Panchayat Hall where 22 people donated blood to the Blood Bank at Hospicio, Margao whose team had come to collect the blood. Although 31 people had come to donate blood, ni9ne persons were turned back for various reasons. While five were tuned down because their haemoglobin count was low, two were turned down for not getting sufficient sleep. The Chandor Club’s club house was formally inaugurated on 7th February 2016 evening in the presence of a large crowd including the who’s who of the village. Ex-President of the Club Fernando Coutinho along with his wife Juliana cut the ribbon to mark the inauguration of the premises.
