55 youngsters coached in football

Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott organised a football coaching camp for children aged below 14 years from the twin villages of Chandor-Cavorim and Guirdolim.

In all 55 children were trained in the game that is a favourite amongst Goans. These included 44 boys and 11 girls and in future one can expect an all ladies football team from here.

The children were coached by four licensed coaches namely Agostine Antao who is holding ‘A’ license, Prajot Shirodkar having ‘C’ license and Avelino Dias having ‘D’ license and Remedian Noronha having ‘D’ license specially to focus on the girls undergoing training. Besides there were 10 others contributing as support staff and some of them were GBE members.

All the coaches were provided by Goa Football Development Council and GBE gave them a kit. GBE also gave three coaches Rs. 5000 each as honorarium but Agostine who hails from Guirdolim refused it saying his coaching was for the love of the sport and the village.

This was the first such camp organised by Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott since its inception and it evoked a very good response as initially it was proposed to train only 30 children but ultimately 55 were trained.

The coaching camp was organised at the initiative of the new President John Fernandes who was ably assisted by Vincy Antao, Oswald Da Costa, Babajin Dias and Minush Gomes. While GBE members extended their support by their presence and handling the various requirements Patrocin Pereira, Francis Pexito and Mickson Fernandes worked as support staff.

The camp was conducted from 7 am to 8:30 am from 25th April to 8th May on the Chandor grounds and various well known players from the twin villages came to share their experiences with the participants when they took a break for refreshments.

While well known lover of football from Chandor Marinho Dias was the chief guest for the coaching camp inaugural function Padmashree Brahmanand Shankhwalkar who is a football legend in the State was the chief guest for the concluding function.

While Marinho was the Guest of Honour for the concluding function, Chandor Club President Felix Furtado, Guirdolim Club President Gidwan D’Costa and Chandor Seamen’s Association President Sandeep Kalekar were the Special Invitees.

Two young footballers from Cavorim namely Fitzroy Gomes and Valdamer Gomes were felicitated for their accomplishment of having represented F C Goa at Bangalore.

All the trainees and the coaches were given a kit. The kit comprised of a bag, jersey, shorts, stockings, shin guards, towels, cloth bag, water bottle and two pamphlets on garbage management. Only a different bag was given to the coaches.

The entire expenditure for the coaching camp which included snacks, refreshments, water, kits, footballs, ground charges, etc., were borne by GBE through donations and contributions from its members.
