Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott in association with Chandor Seamen’s Association organized a blood donation camp at Chandor today where 29 pints of blood were collected while 11 potential donors were rejected.
Dr Ravin Rego of the Hospicio Blood Bank who led the team said the blood donation camp has come at the right moment as presently the blood bank was in dire need of blood and also applauded the organizers for getting such a high number of donors.
Various reasons were attributed to the persons who could not donate blood with most of them rejected for low haemoglobin count while there was one case of a boy having very high haemoglobin count.
Dr Rego was assisted by three lab technicians one attendant and the driver who also assisted in getting the equipment specially the cold box to the first floor where the camp was held.
The blood donation camp was a huge success largely because John Douglas Coutinho got 14 donors and seven GBE members also donated their blood with Cypriano Fernandes feeling a little uneasy after donating his blood and one of John’s boy felt dizzy and had to be asked to lie down on the ground to recover.
The panchayat hall was in a mess and Irene very patiently cleaned the hall to prepare it for the camp. While Minush arranged for the coffee to be served to the donors, Vice President Maria Mascarenhas and Managing Committee member Serena Antao prepared the chutney sandwiches. New Managing Committee member Emerson Britto was the photographer besides of course being a blood donor.
Maxy of Chandor Seamen’s Association was a great help in preparing the tables for donors to lie on and also pinning up the banner at the entrance to the panchayat hall. Our own ever dependable Anthony Pereira was assisting Maxy throughout. Sita who arrived “fashionably late” was a great help specially in getting a stand fan as requested by the Blood Bank team.
