CRZ fails to inspect river filling
Guirdolim and Chandor residents are upset with the Salcete Taluka Level Coastal Committee for its failure to carry out an inspection of CRZ violation in Guirdolim. Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott had complained to the Collector South that the railways had filled up a rivulet in Guirdolim and blocked its joining the Kushawati river. The complaint was forwarded to the Taluka Coastal Committee for necessary action by the Collector. Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott keeping with its motto of making life easier for the people gave five convex mirrors to the Chandor Cavorim Village Panchayat and a water filter to the Andanwadi for use of the tiny tots visiting it. The convex mirrors will be installed at places where there are sharp turns so that oncoming traffic can be viewed to avoid accidents and Chandor Cavorim Sarpanch Edward D’Silva thanked GBE for donating the mirrors. GBE also donated a water filter to the anganwadi where around 20 tiny tots come every day so that they can now drink good quality water instead of relying on the PWD supplied water only. Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott held its annual Ladain at the cross on the hillock at Ghottmorod on 29th May 2015 from 5 pm onwards. In all there were 35 people present for the ladain that included 16 members, 6 children of members, one other child, four guests of which one was a member’s wife and eight of John’s staff that carried the snacks up the hillock. The ladain was sung in Konkani by all the members and guests gifted with the talent to sing. Anthony Pereira led the singing by accompanying on a guitar. He was supported by Presley Mascarenhas, a member’s son on the saxophone and Cyrus on the violin. Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott got a new managing committee at the annual general body meeting held on 3rd May 2015 where Advocate Joe Antao from Guirdolim was elected the president. Of the 13 managing committee members elected 10 were members of the previous managing committee. The three new faces are Felix Furtado as General Secretary, Anand Shirodkar as Treasurer and Serena Antao as Managing Committee member. Advocate Joe Antao who was the vice president in the outgoing managing committee was unanimously elected as the President. His name was proposed by the outgoing president John Douglas Coutinho and seconded by Alzira Pereira.
