Joe Antao Memorial Mando Festival held
Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott organized the first Adv. Joe Antao Iadostik Mando Utsav (Adv. Joe Antao Memorial Mando Festival) on 29th April 2017 in honour of its president late Advocate Joe Antao who died in office and who was a great singer and Mando lover. In all, six groups presented seven Mandos which were much appreciated by the large crowd gathered in front of the Chandor church near the cross to witness the festival. Goa’s extremely popular Mando groups like the Curtorimchim Motiam and Orlimchim Mogrim participated in the festival. Incidentally Orlimchim Mogrim won the first prize at the Kala Acaemi Mando Festival held in 2016 and they presented two Mandos. Clafasio Dias who was elected as the Member of Legislative Assembly from Cuncolim constituency by the lowest margin of 33 votes achieved this feat by taking a lead in 17 of the 42 polling booths despite ranking at number 4 position in the Cuncolim Municipal area. Clafasio led in all the 3 booths of Macasana, 4 booths of Chandor-Cavorim, 4 booths of Guirdolim, 4 booths of Paroda and the Government Primary School Panzorconnin East Wing and the booth at Village Panchayat of Ambaulim. To celebrate Republic Day, Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott, Chandor organized a village walk for its members visiting the heritage and important geographic sites in the village keeping in mind that the new Tourism Master Plan has earmarked the village of Chandor as a place for village walks. The walk began at Bansor where the age old granite stone where in earlier times the gaonkars of the village used to dance the mell on the last day of carnival. Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott held their annual Christmas Party for senior citizens of the village on 19th December 2016 at the Chandor Club premises. This year the party was a roaring success with 157 senior citizens participating. The entertainment provided at the party was truly mind blowing as it came entirely from the youngsters living in the village and though some of them are professionals, they performed entirely free for the senior citizens. Congratulations to Anthony Pereira who co-ordinated the entertainment. The Mascarenhas family – Ramiro on the organ, Joyrus on the trumpet and Presley on the saxophone – enthralled the gathering with their instrumental music. Joyrus also belted out one number. Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott launched its late Adv. Joe Antao Memorial Talk on 25th September with a discussion on the topic “Dual Citizenship/Portuguese Passport” with former MLA Adv. Radharao Gracias and Adv. Cleofato Coutinho giving their views on the topic which were quite divergent and helped people to clear many doubts. Adv. Radharao asserted that Goans already had Portuguese citizenship and the Government of India conferred Indian Citizenship on all Goans vide the order dated 28th March 1962 but did not cancel the Portuguese citizenship.
