MY VILLAGE CHANDOR (MHOZO GAUNV CHANDOR-2021) In our younger days when anyone mentioned that India would be a Superpower in the 21st century it was a little difficult to believe. But we made it happen and now we are No.1 in the world. Not only that this will be the third time that my village Chandor will have the honour of receiving the Global award for being the BEST VILLAGE and a role model for others to emulate and that too from the hands of our Worthy Prime Minister who is the son of the soil of Chandor. Right through the ages our village has had a rich cultural heritage and shared a very important place in history. Our beautiful river Khushawati has enchanted people who flocked around her and has continued to make us prosperous. Due to the abundant source of...

In collaboration with the Dalgado Konknni Akademi, an essay competition in Roman Konkani on the topic 2021-ant mhozo ganv Chandor was held on 13th November 2008. In all there were nine entries and the first prize went to Mrs. Brenda Savio D’Silva who gave a futuristic view of Chandor in 2021 painting a vivid picture of what amenities would be there in our village. Incidentally, she deserves kudos as though she thinks in English, she participated in this competition and really took great trouble. She first wrote the essay in English and then painstakingly translated it into Konkani, often referring to the English-Konkani dictionary. All of us should applaud this lady who can become a model for all those who claim that they are not very conversant with our mother...

The government has notified that trucks are prohibited from plying on the Gudi-Chandor road. This has been the result of a concerted effort by Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott. Initially the issue was raised at a meeting held at Cotta and thereafter at Mena Cavorim with the local residents. Thereafter, this issue was raised at the Gram Sabha meeting held in August 2008 and the panchayat was asked to follow up the matter with the concerned authorities. Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott consistently followed up the matter with Maina Curtorim Police Inspector Dharmendra Angle who went out of his way to get this notification approved and published, a fact accepted by Cavorim-Chandor Sarpanch Derick. Here is a pat on our own back, even if we say so, for having achieved something that will...

Under the now scrapped Goa Regional Plan 2011, the hill at Mullem which is on the border of Cavorim was cut to construct a road. Even as the case is pending in the court against this illegality, the owner of that land constructed two huge tanks on the top of the hill at the edge. There was a fear that these tanks could lead to destabilization of the hill due to the accumulated water and its percolation which could cause landslides. Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott took up the matter with the authorities and finally the two tanks were buried before the onset of the 2008 monsoons

Even before Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott was registered, we had started working for the betterment of the village. One of the first projects to be undertaken was changing the desolate spot at Ghotli in Cavorim from where in earlier times a canoe service used to operate to take people across the river. The aim is to make it a picnic spot for the village. Government had acquired the land to construct a bridge which subsequently was shifted to another site. The land was totally engulfed with wildgrowth which was cleared and steps were constructed leading to the river. The summer of 2008 saw a lot of people from Chandor, Cotta and Guirdolim visiting the spot and it truly turned into a picnic spot. Surprisingly some young boys who live in the vicinity saw the river for the...
