Chandor School Excels At board exams
St. Joseph’s Educational Institute, Chandor achieved 94.19% at the Secondary School Certificate Examinations 2024 conducted by Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education. Of the 80 students who answered the examinations, 13 secured distinctions while 33 bagged first class. 31 students passed with second class and four got through with pass class. Trisha Hosmani ranked first with 538 marks that translates to 89.66%. She is the daughter of Prashant a civil contractor and Sandhya who is a home maker. Hailing from Karnataka they live at Fatramoll. Trisha who aspires to be a computer engineer, has enrolled at Rosary Higher Secondary School, Navelim in the science stream. Former sarpanchas have taken over the reins of the panchayats of the twin villages of Chandor-Cavorim and Guirdolim. While Estefanio Dias and Sonia Fernandes have become sarpanchas of Chandor-Cavorim and Guirdolim respectively. Nancy Antao has been elected the deputy sarpanch of Chandor-Cavorim and Guirdolim has Joao Peixote as its deputy sarpanch. Coincidentally, both panchayat members elected from ward No. 1 have become the deputy sarpanchas of the two villages. While Sonia, Joao and Estafanio were elected unopposed to their positions, Nancy was elected as Deputy Sarpanch of Chandor-Cavorim following voting as there was a contest for this post. Having successfully planted saplings in the past which have now grown into sturdy trees, Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott this year undertook an ambitious project of planting 500 saplings as part of Vanmahotsav celebrations in the twin villages of Chandor-Cavorim and Guirdolim. The programme that was launched on 6th July 2022 had the Range Forest Officer Narayan Vaingankar and Chandor Parish Priest Fr. Jean Ruby da Cruz Fernandes as the joint chief guests. Forest Guards of the Goa Forest Department, Shantesh Naik, Ashok Naik and Santosh Naik were also present. Over 100 people from the twin villages of Chandor Cavorim and Guirdolim were educated at length on snakes, snake bites and how to attend to such bites at a programme jointly organised by Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott, Chandor Club, Guirdolim Club and Chandor Seamen Association. Prominent snake rescuers and doctors shared their experiences and knowledge at the over 3 hour long session held at Chandor Club premises and all present not only remained rooted to their seats but also actively participated in the deliberations. It was revealed that of the around 90 species of snakes found in Goa, only four are venomous or poisonous while the others are harmless. The good news was that antidote or anti venom treatment is available for all the four poisonous snakes found in Goa....
