GBE inspires Guirdolim Dy Sarpanch to clean dirty spots
Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott’s sustained efforts to keep the twin villages of Chandor-Cavorim and Guirdolim clean has resulted in not only making the two villages cleanest amongst nearby villages but has also spurred Guirdolim Deputy Sarpanch Joao Peixote to personally clean up dirty areas in his ward with the help of some volunteers who are basically his supporters. Another noteworthy feature is that people have now started segregating their waste on a large scale and giving mixed garbage has reduced drastically. On 22nd September Joao along with his friend Menino Peixote cleaned up the area around a culvert at Roinibhat which was much covered with all type of garbage. Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott organized a camp for screening women for breast cancer on 24th September which was held at the Chandor Club premises under the ‘Swasth Mahila Swasth Goa’ project during which 155 ladies were checked up and the good news was that there was not a single suspected case. The camp was commenced at 9 am and ended at 5 pm and women above the age of 25 were screened for breast cancer which is reported to be the third highest killer of women worldwide and India reporting one-fifth of the total cases in the world. In fact in India, it is said to be the highest killer of women and as per 2020 statistics its incidence is 25.8 per cent. Incidentally, the eldest woman screened at Chandor was aged 80. Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott in collaboration with Rotary Club of Cuncolim started “tailoring, cutting & embroidery” classes in Chandor wherein 16 ladies from the village have enrolled for the six month course. This unique project of the Rotary Club of Cuncolim was kick started with the money collected by its member Dr. Jorson Fernandes who refused to accept any flowers or mementoes during his tenure as District Governor of Rotary Club and instead kept a box for donation. Rotary Club of Waynesborco in Brazil joined hands with Rotary Club of Cuncolim to be its international partner to launch this programme under which 200 people will be trained in tailoring, cutting and embroidery and will be provided with free sewing machines.
