Who should be the new ZP member

 Voters from the twin villages from Chandor-Cavorim, Guirdolim have to think seriously when they vote for their new Zilla Panchayat representative on 20th December 2025. Ms. Sanjana Velip, the last ZP representative of the twin villages who was backed by the BJP, did not visit the twin villages even once for the last 5 years. Also she did not spend a single rupee for any developmental work in the twin villages although she had crores of rupees to be utilized.

Ex Chandor-Cavorim sarpanch Estafanio Dias personally invited Ms. Velip for the seminar the panchayat conducted on developing the village as a heritage destination. Although Ms. Velip promised to attend, she did not turn up. Subsequently following a demand at a Gram Sabah, the panchayat wrote a letter to Ms. Velip asking her to visit the village to listen to peoples grievances which she brazenly ignored by not even acknowledging its receipt.

At the election on 20th December the said Ms. Velip’s husband Sanjay Velip hailing from Ambaulim has been nominated as a candidate by the Congress party. BJP sources disclosed that as Ms. Velip did not do any work the BJP conveyed to her that she would not be re-nominated following which she along with her husband joined the Congress a few days ago.

The moot question for the voters of Chandor-Guirdolim is whether they will vote for a defector given the fact that following the defections in 2023 when MLAs elected on Congress ticket joined the ruling BJP, the villagers felicitated their MLA Yuri Alemao for not defecting.
