Chandor Crib wins at State level contest
The beautiful crib prepared by those living at Pallotti Jyoti Niwas at Ponsabhat in Guirdolim has won the first consolation prize at the all Goa crib competition organized by the Directorate of Art & Culture, Government of Goa making all of us proud. The 17 seminarians and three priests living at Jyoti Niwas worked for over two months to prepare the mesmirising tableau that attracted many people from different parts of Goa. The entire tableau consisted of leaves either stuck or stitched to create the manger, a house and other structures including plain walls. Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott completed the beautification of the traffic island in front of the Church on the eve of the Feast of Our Lady of Bethlehem which is celebrated on 6th January every year with much pomp and grandeur. As the tableau of the three wise men or three kings as they are known, is the highlight of this feast celebration, the traffic island was beautified with the theme of the three kings. Bust size pictures of the three kings are placed at an angle facing three sides of the roundabout. Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott held their annual Christmas party for senior citizens of the village on 21st December from 10 am onwards and ended with lunch. A record number of 147 senior citizens attended the party and had real fun. A very active and committed member of Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott, late Benny Fernandes had volunteered to be the project manager for this programme and he wanted to ensure that the senior citizens have a good time. Following his death it was decided to go ahead with the party to fulfill his dream and that is exactly what happened on 21st December. As Goa celebrates its Liberation Day, the Village Panchayat of Guirdolim took a major step to liberate its inhabitants from the menace of plastic waste as the panchayat launched its door to door plastic waste collection drive. A cycle with a trolley to collect the plastic waste from households and a metal cage to store the collected plastic till the contractor appointed by Goa State Pollution Control Board collects it was commissioned on 19th December 2014 with the parish priest of Chandor Church Fr. The final rites were held on 15th December which was attended by a very large crowd.
