It was a hectic weekend on 6th and 7th October as Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott had two different programmes on those days. On 6th October Deputy Superintendent of Police Raju Raut Dessai along with officials of Maina Curtorim Police station visited the village to interact with the people and on 7th October was the exhibition of the photography competition.
The DySP visited Chandor along with the Police Inspector of Maina Curtorim Police Station Pravinkumar Vast, Police Sub Inspector at the Chandor police out post Amin Naik and police constables at the outpost interacted with the people to know their problems and grievances.
As a result of this interaction from 8th October one police personnel is posted near St Joseph’s Educational Institute everyday when the school starts in the morning and ends in the afternoon to regulate the traffic that was posing a big threat to the young children.
Besides the police have promised to launch a drive against use of plastic in the village by raiding the shops giving away plastic bags and also taking action against those dumping plastic waste by the roadside which also attracts fine as per the law. He asked people to pass on a photograph or information of such cases to the police
Following the appointment of PSI Amin Naik at the outpost people from Chandor or for that matter the entire area covered by the outpost do not have to go to the police station at Margao to lodge their complaints but the same will be done at the outpost itself.
The villagers urged the police to patrol the areas in the village where youngsters gather to consume alcohol and specifically mentioned the Monte chapel and also asked the police to clamp down upon youth who have altered the silencers of their two wheelers and drive through the village in the night disturbing everybody.
Chandor Cavorim Panchayat Celina Coelho e Furtado along with the newly elected Deputy Sarpanch Arlinda Tereza participated in the interaction.
PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST:
Five of the 15 who participated in the photography contest organized by Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott won prizes as three participants shared the third prize. The contest was open only for residents of Chandor and Guirdolim and photographs had to be on the topic “Chandor in the rains”.
While 13 participants submitted two photographs, only two participants had one photograph each and the photographs were evaluated by professional photographers namely Lui Estebeiro from Macasana, Salik Mohammed from Canacona and Joseph Vincy Antao from Guirdolim.
Delbert D’Costa’s photographs at Modlem were adjudged to be the best while Shawnel Mascarenhas photographs of a coconut tree with the monsoon moss on it was declared to be the second best.
The third prize was shared by three entries namely photographs of a duck and a water body by Anneli Souza, photographs of buffaloes in a meadow a water drain by Ronnie D’Souza and photographs of train and Kushawati river by Mashwin Agnelo Gomes.
This was the first photography contest organized by Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott whose members Jassu Gomes, Glenn Antao and Lindarifa Fernandes sponsored the three prizes and the photographs were exhibited on the band stand at the church on Sunday 7th October 2018.
