Elderly escorted for Exposition
In keeping with its motto of making life easier for the inhabitants of the twin villages of Guirdolim and Chandor Cavorim, Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott took 18 elderly persons to Old Goa to participate in the Exposition of the relics of Goencho Saib St Francis Xavier/ Carrying the 18 including the inhabitants of the Old Age Home at Cotta, the bus left Chandor at 1:37 pm on 12th December 2024. GBE members Francis alias Hanchik Peixoto, Menino alias Minush Gomes and Jassu Gomes along with one person from Giurdolim assisted the elderly on their pilgrimage. Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott held its annual ladainha at the Nagzor Cross on 30th May with a large number of people participating in it. GBE member and the pastoral choir master Cypriano led singing the eight Konkani hymns including one dedicated to St Francis Xavier, Patron of the Indies and another to St Anthony, Patron of Cavorim where the cross is situated. Quite a number of people living near the Nagzor Cross participated in the litany that as usual had the women outnumbering the men. As Diwali was celebrated world over on November 12, 2023, Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott held a Walkathon through the twin villages of Chandor-Guirdolim to mark this festival of lights so that people may be enlightened to fight communal vitriol that is disturbing peace in the country. The 89 participants walked 6.5 kms in 77 minutes as they walked through the twin villages under the theme “For communal harmony, peacre and harmony”.The participants left at 4:22 pm and the last batch returned at 5:39 pm though some youngsters who ran were the first to reach at 5:30 pm. The participants were aged from the youngest being 6 years to the senior most who completed the Walkathon at the age of 73 and a half years. Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott held its flagship programme, the Christmas Party for Senior Citizens on 19th December 2023 at the spacious hall of Chandor Club premises. This was the 15th year this project was held and had a record of around 300 senior citizens enjoying the Christmas spirit. Initially, this party used to be held in the open space behind the Chandor Church in the school premises. (Game and Bottle game) It was truly a fun time as there were games in which those gathered participated enthusiastically. Gamv Bhavancho Ekvott totally remoovated and refurbished the traffic circle in front of the Chandor Church. GBE is regularly maintaining this island in memory of its founder member late Benedito more commonly known as Benny Fernandes who was also a very dedicated and committed member. He passed away soon after GBE had first renovated it in 2014 with him as the project manager when the island was given a total new look with glazewd tiles of the three Wise Men who visited infant Jesus during Epiphamy which feast is celebrated in the village with great pomp. Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott members slogged it out for three hours on sunny and scorching 25th May to clean the village market and surrounding areas of all the plastic and other waste littering it. This was to clean up the area before the onset of monsoons to ensure that the waste lying there does not clog the drains or get washed into the river, thereby polluting it. The dirt that prevailed in the market area Incidentally, earlier GBE members supervised labourers for eight days from 8:30 am to 5:30 to collect all the garbage lying by the roadsides and open spaces in the village with the same objective.
