Visiting the Aged
World Old Day which is observed on 16th October the world over, and on this day Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott (GBE) visited the home for the aged managed by the St Vincent de Paul Society which is housed at Chandor next to the St. Tiago Chapel. This visit was after a break necessitated by the prevailing pandemic due to which it was decided to protect the aged from any infection.
During the visit, the inmates were entertained with video recordings of popular and ever favourite old Konkani songs including those sung by the nightingale of Goa Lorna, Goa’s own musical family namely Alfred Rose, his wife Rita Rose and their daughter Alria Rose. The mesmerising and enchanting songs from the old but still a favourite Konkani film Amchem Noxib were also shown. Besides, GBE’s in house minstrel sang some songs including a duet with Concesanv who lives in the house.
The inmates were also provided snacks and tea which included sandwiches sponsored by GBE member Alzira Pereira and Goan delicacies “bhatk” and “pinagre” which were sponsored by a well-wisher.
Incidentally Jose Coutinho was the project manager and arranged for the projector and screen which was also set up by him with help from other GBE members. Gidwan D’Costa another member arranged for the videos of the Konkani songs.
The visit commenced with a prayer which was jointly said by the inmates along with GBE members. One of the inmates Consesanv thanked GBE for showing their concern for them living in the shadows of their lifetime and also prayed that they be blessed with good health and well being.
Earlier GBE President John Fernandes in his short address assured the inmates that the organisation is always willing to help them in any of their needs. “If there is anything that you need or any help you require, please contact any of our members and we shall be there for you,” he said.
GBE members who visited the home for the aged which is commonly called “alberque” in Konkani were President John Fernandes, Treasurer Anand Shirdokar, Vice Presidents Irena Antao, managing committee members Serena Antao, Esly Henriques, Sebastiana, embers Sandeep Kalekar, Alzira Pereira, Gidwan D’Costa, Hanchik, Emerson Britto, Minush Gomes, Diogo Fernandes, Mickson Fernandes, Jose Coutinho, Fiel alias Babzinho Dias and John Douglas Coutinho.
