Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott in collaboration with Rotary Club of Cuncolim started “tailoring, cutting & embroidery” classes in Chandor wherein 16 ladies from the village have enrolled for the six month course.
This unique project of the Rotary Club of Cuncolim was kick started with the money collected by its member Dr. Jorson Fernandes who refused to accept any flowers or mementoes during his tenure as District Governor of Rotary Club and instead kept a box for donation.
Rotary Club of Waynesborco in Brazil joined hands with Rotary Club of Cuncolim to be its international partner to launch this programme under which 200 people will be trained in tailoring, cutting and embroidery and will be provided with free sewing machines.
Speaking at the formal inaugural function Dr. Jorson appreciated the work done by Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott and recalled that long before the Regional Plan became an issue in Goa and was deliberated at the Panchayat level, it was Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott in its nascent form that had prepared a people’s development plan for the village.
Chief Guest for the function, former Collector Gokuldas Naik urged the students to take the classes seriously and attend them regularly. He pointed out that this could be a source of additional income for their families.
On the occasion, Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott President John Douglas Coutinho was also felicitated at the hands of Mr. Gokuldas Naik who offered him a shawl, shriphal and memento on behalf of Rotary Club of Cuncolim.
