Chandor gets 14 new tailorsAltogether 14 participants of the cutting, stitching and embroidery course were presented their certificates and given a free electric machine for their personal use at the valedictory function held on 6th November 2014 at the meeting place of Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott in Chandor.

The classes were organized by Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott and totally financed by the Rotary Club of Cuncolim who not only paid the fees of the teacher but also provided the machines to the participants.

President of Rotary Club of Cuncolim Deepak Phaldessai in his welcome address hoped for more participating with Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott in future.

Former District Governor Dr. Jorson Fernandes who has a long association with Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott urged the students to form a women’s self help group- and to be dynamic at all times. He also praised GBE President John Douglas Coutinho for all his work in the village and his generosity too. He stressed the need for the participants to use the sewing machines to augment their income and cautioned them against selling the machines.

At a competition held on the occasion on embroidery Juliet Pereira won the second prize while Janet Noronha won the first place. They were presented awards in memory of Dr. Jorson’s mother late Manina Fernandes who was herself very good at embroidery.

Two of the participants – Fanny D’Silva and Anusha Peixote – thanked Rotary Club of Cuncolim for all their support and also Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott for taking the initiative to organize the classes which they said had helped them tremendously.

District Governor of Rotarians Ganesh Bhatt pointed out that the Rotary Club was now moving to rural areas to change them. He urged the participants of the course to use what they had learnt to improve their lives and also their surroundings.

All the successful participants were presented the sewing machines at the end of the programme during which a special round of applause was given to the teacher Agatha Gomes who conducted the classes for six months.
