Gampona ghorGampona Ghor or Casa de Sessão at Igorjebhat which was in a dilapidated condition posing a great threat to the young children coming there as an anganwadi is housed therein, has been renovated by the children of late Francisco and late Francisca alias Fanny Coutinho.

The entire house has been given plastered with cement inside as well as outside besides giving it an entire new flooring of granite stones. Besides, the entire roofing has been redone with the damaged beams replaced. A toilet and a store room has also been provided to the premises.

At a small function held on 29th August 2015, the renovated premises were blessed by the officiating parish priest Fr. Saluzinho Fernandes. A local person Agnelo Fernandes who availed the various schemes implemented through this ICDP urged the people to make use of the facility provided by the government as it was meant for all people.

Ms. Alzira Fernandes who used to come to the anganwadi 20 years ago, shared her experience and recalled how the teachers guided them when they were young and whatever she learnt there helped her in her life today.

Maria Piedade Peixote, the anganwadi teacher recalled how she has been running from pillar to post for the last 20 years to get the premises repaired but with no result. She recalled various politicians making tall claims and speeches but not doing anything for the children coming there.

She revealed that she had got permission from her senior officer to get the premises repaired if she could get someone to bear the cost and further informed that she had told the local Panch and Deputy Sarpanch Marcelo Fernandes that she was repairing the premises to which he gave his consent but cautioned her not to expect any money from him.

Mrs. Peixote thanked John Douglas Coutinho who took the initiative in renovating the premises and also thanked his siblings for contributing towards it. She especially thanked Willy and Benu Coutinho for keeping all the stock meant for the beneficiaries in their house when the premises were undergoing renovation for nearly a month.

John Douglas Coutinho was appreciative of people’s generosity. He pointed out that the founder president of Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott Rui da Silva gifted his old wooden doors to be used in the premises so that it could retain the rustic look. He also expressed his gratitude to Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott members Anthony Pereira for undertaking the wiring of the premises and Menino alias Minush Gomes for all the work he had done during the renovation.
