GBE’s Annual Litany Held

Litany

Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott held its annual ladainha (litany) at the cross on the Ghottmorod hillock on 29th May 2016 and this year there were 42 persons participating besides the seven members of John Douglas’s staff who carried the refreshments up the hillock.

While Anthony Pereira led the singing of the litany, the chorus was led by President Joe Antao who also said a short prayer towards the end of the litany. The music for the litany was provided by Presley Mascarenhas on the saxophone and Joyrus Mascarenhas on the trumpet. Joyrus’ father Ramiro also played the trumpet for two hymns.

The litany is held every year to thank the Lord for the all good things that happened throughout the year and to also pray for success of GBE activities in the next year. Besides, a statue of Our Lady which was found in Kushawati river at Tarricode has been placed at the cross which is also venerated during the litany. A prayer was also said to the departed souls of GBE members which this year was Santana Cardoso.

While the President Joe Antao once again climbed the hillock briskly without panting, ex-general secretary Julio D’Silva had to take breaks during the climb to get back his breath.

After the litany, refreshments were served to all those present. The cake and beef samosas were sponsored by John Douglas Coutinho, Minush sponsored the water and soft drinks, Irene Antao sponsored the boiled grams with coconut pieces and Maria Mascarenhas brought bhatka. Thanks to all the sponsors.

Prominent among those attending the litany were nine children who were amazed with the view from the hillock and a panchayat member Reve Furtado.

A big round of applause to the Project Manager Irene Antao for getting so many people to participate in the litany. Also thanks to Anthony Pereira for arranging the musicians and the singers and John Douglas Coutinho for giving his boys to trudge up the refreshments.
