People leaving the St Anthony’s Chapel at Cavorim after celebrating the novena mass were stunned to see some people standing with by the road side with their faces covered in plastic bags and carrying beautifully designed and printed posters with messages to preserve and protect environment.

This was Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott’s novel way of observing World Environment Day following an idea mooted by ex President John Douglas Coutinho. Incidentally they also planted 25 trees around the periphery of St. Anthony Chapel property.

Only flowering trees like Champa and others were planted by around 20 members of Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott. Francisco Coutinho who was the project manager did an excellent job and handled the project very efficiently.

Children of GBE members Irene Antao and Sandra da Costa also joined in the tree plantation along with some local boys. As GBE members knew most of the people, they also spoke to them on how by doing small things they can help protect the environment and the most important thing to do was to reduce the use of plastic.

Members who participated in the programme were President Darwin Cardoso, General Secretary Basil Fernandes, Treasurer Anand Shirodkar, Project Manager Francisco Coutinho, ex-President John Douglas Coutinho, Anthony Pereira, Cyprian Lopes, Felix Furtado, Anthony Pereira, Anton Antao, Anrison Antao, Minush Gomes, Benito Coutinho and Remmy Martins.
Jassu Gomes sponsored the banners and posters which were designed and printed by Francisco the project manager.

Incidentally the Bayo trees that were planted along Misamer some years back by GBE flowered beautifully this year and so also the trees that were planted on the road leading to the cemetery where the bougainvillea plants look beautiful when they flower.
