Chandor celebrates two feasts

 Twin villages of Guirdolim and Chandor-Cavorim celebrated two feasts – Feast of Our Lady of Bethlehem and Solemnity of the Epiphany on January 6 at the church dedicated to Nossa Senhora de Belem.

Chandor is one of the three places in Goa where the Maggi visiting Baby Jesus is enacted. Incidentally, this enactment resumed in the early 70s after a 25 year break in Chandor.

 Maverick Antao, son of Mario and Pearl Antao from Anthoi was one of the three Kings. Dressed in red, he represented King of Arabia Balthazar who carried Myrrh as his gift.

 Joyden Cardozo from New Township is born to Onastadio and Aveline Cardozo. Adorning a gold embellished robe, he represented King Melchior from Persia who gifted Baby Jesus Gold.

 Brooklyn D’Costa is born to Joseph and Magret from Moll Guirdolim. In a green robe, he represented King Gaspar from India and he carried Frankincense as his gift.

 The main service commenced with the three coming from the Chapel at the Mount to the church on horses which resulted in a procession as they were followed by people gathered on the roadside.

Auxiliary Bishop Simiao Purificacao Fernandes who was the main celebrant in his homily recalled that he received is first four sacraments in the same church as he hails from Guirdolim.
