Chandor Club gets all male Managing Committee
At the general body meeting held on 24th November 2024, an all male 19 member managing committee was elected unopposed for Chandor Club. Joy D’Silva was elected for a record 11th term as the General Secretary at the elections conducted by Election Commissioner Julio D’Silva assisted by Celina Coelho Furtado.
The New Managing committee elected for the next two year term is as follows: President – Egidio da Costa, Vice President – Ligorio Dias, General Secretary – Joy D’Silva, Assistant Secretary – Gustavo Furtado, Treasurer – Thomas Pereira, Assistant Treasurer – Jose Coutinho, Cultural Secretary – Antonio alias Anthony Pereira, Sports Secretary – Derryk Mendes, Assistant Sports Secretaries – Pascoal Fernandes and Jeston Martins, Managing Committee Members (5): Andrew Peixoto, Antonio Colaco, Brian Fernandes, Derrick Braganza Pereira and Francis Coutinho; Trustees (4): Basil Fernandes, Felix Furtado, Bosco da Silva and Fiel Babazinho Dias.
Incidentally Joy D’Silva has been serving the Chandor Club as General Secretary since 1991 with a break of only one term. While Antonio Pereira is elected Cultural Secretary fpr the fifth term, Derryk Mendes is elected Sports Secretary for the fourth time.
General Secretary Joy D’Silva while presenting his report regretted that the Carol Singing Competition could not be held due to lack of participants. He pointed out that the annual Seamen’s Trophy football tournament, Christmas Tree programme for children and other activities were carried out successfully. He also disclosed that the club had given its auditorium without charging any fees to St Vincent de Paul Society and Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott for a programme and senior citizens’ party respectively. Joy in his report also covered the Club’s accounts and noted that the auditorium is enabling them to maintain profits.
Member Clinton Furtado was congratulated for designing the logo for the Club along with its website which he is also managing.
In his closing remarks outgoing President Basil Fernandes lamented that members’ participation is on the decline and urged them to participate with more zeal. In fact the general body started one hour late as the required quorum of 25 members was not established.
In his acceptance speech New President Egidio da Costa while promising to work to his best abilities sought co-operation and support from all members to keep the Chandor Club flag flying high.
The general body meeting ended with fellowship where brunch comprising chourisamass, beef and chonneacho ross with bread was available.
