Chandor Club lifts Seamen’s Trophy
Chandor club lifted the Golden Jubilee Seamen’s Trophy, the second oldest inter village football tournament in Goa, by defeating Curtorim Gymkhana. They won the finals by the only goal scored against Curtorim in regular time, at the finals held on 21st September 2025.
Chandor the village that celebrate the feast of the three Magi started the Seamen’s Trophy when three seafarers – Dominic Pereira from Colloso, Caetan Xavier from Anthoi, and Zose Vincent Costa from Ponsabhat – came together to sponsor the Seamen’s Trophy in 1973. Chandor Club kicked off this tournament on 15 August, 1973. SWATI from Benaulim won the first Seamen’s Trophy in 1973, which was held when Prof. Joaquim Menezes was the president of the Chandor Club. Local MLA Yuri Alemao who is also the leader of opposition in the Goa Legislative Assembly was the chief guest at the finals this year.
Chandor Club released a souvenir at the finals that had messages by Yuri Alemao, Chandor Club president Egidio Da Costa, Club GS Joy D’Silva traced the history of the Club and its premises. Former asst. editor of Herald Julio D’Silva penned an article listing the troubles facing Chandor that has a glorious past of being the first capital of the region under Kadamba Dynasty.
