Christmas Party for Senior Citizens
Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott organized its annual Christmas Party for senior citizens from the villages of Chandor Cavorim and Guirdolim at the Chandor Club premises Sunday morning where around 170 elders had a good time.
Jalin the one man band belted out some great songs to keep the elders entertained the whole time. Besides, he also played the music whenever GBE members Anthony Pereira and Domnick Mendes sang. He also backed participants Jose Salvador Cardoso, Domnick Cardoso, Ida Antao, Maria Joaquina Antao and Annie Gomes when they sang songs. Annie delighted everybody with her rendition of Portuguese songs.
Incidentally Santiago who used to play the drums for the same party earlier sang some songs specially Christmas Carols.
93 year old Marcelino Da Silva was the oldest person for the programme and was awarded a prize by the project manager Alzira Fernandes. All the participants were presented a torch as a Christmas gift by GBE.
Parish Preist Fr. Simao Rodrigues and Chaplain of St Francis Xavier Chapel, Guirdolim Fr. Martin Dourado also attended the party and gave special Christmas messages to those present.
The Christmas Father besides distributing chocolates donated by Emperor Chocolates from Goa also got the senior citizens to do the penguin dance where many senior citizens joyfully participated.
The participants were served soup and later a delicious lunch prepared by Ana Caterers from Maina Curtorim that had salad, chicken, pork, pulao and a lime pickle that was liked by most. Incidentally the food was served in the human chain style that was prevalent years earlier for wedding reception when the food was cooked at home and caterers had not made their presence felt.
Daughter of the village Petu prepared the soup and very delicious deserts namely dodol and bebinca.
The whole show was ably compered by new member Movin Fernandes who was well backed and guided by Anthony Pereira.
In all 20 members of Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott managed the whole show very ably and the senior citizens expressed their happiness over the manner in which the show was organized.
