Christmas Party for Senior Citizens
Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott held their annual Christmas party for senior citizens of the village on 21st December from 10 am onwards and ended with lunch. A record number of 147 senior citizens attended the party and had real fun.
A very active and committed member of Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott, late Benny Fernandes had volunteered to be the project manager for this programme and he wanted to ensure that the senior citizens have a good time. Following his death it was decided to go ahead with the party to fulfill his dream and that is exactly what happened on 21st December.
Tony Coutinho with his young lads on the blowing instruments along with a guitar, organ and drum set provided the music which was very very entertaining. They also played some numbers that were Benny’s favourite.
Some of the participants also entertained those gathered with their singing. Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott members Anthony Pereira and Domingos Cardoso also belted out some numbers.
In memory of Benny Fernandes, a wheel chair was offered to George Colaco from Mena to enable him to move around specially outside the house. George was helped to make himself comfortable in the chair by Alzira Fernandes wife of late Benny Fernandes.
All those who attended the party were given a Christmas gift comprising a thermos and a bag to collect the household plastic waste to be handed over to the panchayat representative who collects plastic garbage from households now.
Incidentally while serving the snacks and lunch to the participants, Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott stuck to the system in use in olden times wherein a line was prepared and the plates were passed from one person to another to finally reach the guest.
Although the party was a little subdued or somber this year due to the tragedy that stuck the organization, it was quite well organized and all those gathered had real good fun and praised the organizers for their good work.
