Free Medical Camp
Hundreds of people gathered at St. Joseph’s Educational Institute, Chandor on 30th December not only to participate in the free multi specialty medical camp held but also to pay homage to late Dr. Vamona Sheldeker who served the residents of Assolda, Chandor, Cavorim and Guirdolim selflessly and with utmost dedication.
At the programme held to commemorate Dr. Vamona’s birth centenary, a large crowd was present and many of them did not even take part in the medical camp. Guest of Honour Fr. Saude Pereira seeing the turnout said he was privileged to be associated with the programme while Chief Guest, former Solicitor General of India Adv. M S Usgaonkar recalled how Dr. Vamona was committed to his vocation and did not chase materialism.
A villager Nicolau Antao recounted how Dr. Vamona would make house calls on his cycle after crossing the Kushawati river in a canoe. Adv. Joe Antao said he owed his life to Dr. Vamona whose timely diagnosis of the abscess of liver saved his life in his childhood.
At the medical camp in all 338 people were attended to in different streams like ENT, gynaecology, paediatrics, orthopaedics, general medicine, cardiology and surgery. Besides nearly 200 people were screened for blood sugar levels.
Free medicines donated by CMM, Geno Pharmaceuticals and Allen Remedies were also distributed to the patients.
The medical camp was organized by the descendants of Dr. Vamona Sheldeker along with Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott and the Sheldeker family in recognition of the good work done by Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott in the village gave them a donation of Rs. 10,000/-
