Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott members toiled for nearly three hours on 19th July to clean the tinto at Chandor with a power washer that really cleaned the dirty walls and floors.

The work commenced at 4:30 pm and ended at nearly 7:30 pm during which time each section was cleaned meticulously. While the section where pork and sausages are sold were cleaned off the blood stains, the fish market section was rid of the slimy after remains of the fish sold there.

However, the most difficult was the cleaning of the vegetable market where ants, cockroaches and other insects abounded. In fact it was quite appalling to see the ant and cockroaches prowling around and imagine that the vegetables they crawl over are sold to the villagers the next day.

The cleaning was part of GBE’s initiative to dedicate one hour every week to clean some part of the village. GBE members who participated in the cleanliness drive were John Douglas Coutinho, Basil Fernandes, Menino alias Minush Gomes, Remedios alias Remmy Martins, Sita Antao, Domnick Mendes, Domingos Cardoso, Alzira Fernandes and Julio D’Silva.

Earlier on 12th July 2015, Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott members cleaned up the traffic islands in front of the Church. The tree triangular traffic islands were cleaned by removing all the weeds that had grown in them and the bougainvilleas growing there can now been seen in their full glory.

Ironically a few days later the main traffic island was damaged by a heavy vehicle banging against it and dislodging a couple of the laterite stones at its base, which have seen been repaired by Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott now.
