Village cleaned for monsoons
In keeping with its commitment to cleanliness particularly to keep the village clean, Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott undertook its regular pre-monsoon cleaning of the village.
All the waste littering the roadsides of the village and also the prominent open spaces by the road sides were cleaned by special labourers who were supervised by GBE members.
The workers slogged it out in the blazing heat for eight days from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm, with a break for lunch and some refreshments in between of course, to prepare the village for the monsoon showers.
This herculean effort resulted in collecting 60 big black bags of garbage which were then transported to be disposed off scientifically as prescribed by the Goa State Waste Management Corporation.
The entire cleanliness drive was sponsored by GBE’s main benefactor John Douglas Coutinho who also provided his labourers and vehicle for transporting the collected garbage.
Besides, the bushes growing by the road side were also cut to enable a better cleanliness of the roadside area and this bush cutting was also sponsored by John.
“This cleanliness has to be carried out as otherwise during the monsoons all the waste lying by the roadside gets washed away to the river causing more problems,” said John who incidentally was the chairman of the Village Garbage Management Committee during the last term of the panchyayat.
