X’Mas Party for Senior Citizens Chandor
Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott held its annual Christmas party for senior citizens of the parish of Chandor on 16th December 2012 at the St. Joseph’s Educational Institute courtyard. Altogether 119 senior citizens from the villages of Guirdolim, Chandor and Cavorim participated.
The Brass Clan led by Tony Coutinho provided the entertainment which was much appreciated by the gathered crowd particularly as the group consisted of young boys playing the brass instruments. Besides, Everly Mascarenhas sang some songs in Konkani and English and while she also played the keyboard, her brother Presley Mascarenhas accompanied her on the saxophone. Everly also jammed up with the Brass Clan to belt out Chris Perry’s popular Cucu rucu cu. They are the children of GBE members Piety and Maria Mascarenhas.
Some of the participants like Lily, Salvador Cardoso, Maria Dourado belted out some songs in Konkani and later on the three along with Rosalita sang a mando and some dulpods which had the gathered crowd singing with them. Aida Antao was also moved to sing a Portuguese/English song.
Sucorro Fernandes who was the project manager for this programme doubled up as Santa Claus and brought cheer to the crowd as he went around distributing sweets.
In keeping with its goal of reducing the use of plastic, GBE gave shopping bags to the participants as Christmas present and urged them to take them out while shopping.
