Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott launched its late Adv. Joe Antao Memorial Talk on 25th September with a discussion on the topic “Dual Citizenship/Portuguese Passport” with former MLA Adv. Radharao Gracias and Adv. Cleofato Coutinho giving their views on the topic which were quite divergent and helped people to clear many doubts. Adv. Radharao asserted that Goans already had Portuguese citizenship and the Government of India conferred Indian Citizenship on all Goans vide the order dated 28th March 1962 but did not cancel the Portuguese citizenship. At its meeting held on 2nd July 2016, Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott fondly remembered its President Joe Antao who passed away on 24th June 2016 after a brief illness. Members present shared their memories of Joe who was acknowledged for being a soft spoken person and none present ever recalled him raising his voice. Suzie Pereira said Joe was a very kind hearted man and always very co-operative. Menino alias Minush Gomes called Joe a “I’m there” man and remembered how he used to join GBE for every activity including the cleanliness drives where he would even pick up a spade and dig. Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott held its annual ladainha (litany) at the cross on the Ghottmorod hillock on 29th May 2016 and this year there were 42 persons participating besides the seven members of John Douglas’s staff who carried the refreshments up the hillock. While Anthony Pereira led the singing of the litany, the chorus was led by President Joe Antao who also said a short prayer towards the end of the litany. The music for the litany was provided by Presley Mascarenhas on the saxophone and Joyrus Mascarenhas on the trumpet. Joyrus’ father Ramiro also played the trumpet for two hymns. Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott got a new managing committee at the annual general body meeting held on 3rd May 2015 where Advocate Joe Antao from Guirdolim was elected the president. Of the 13 managing committee members elected 10 were members of the previous managing committee. The three new faces are Felix Furtado as General Secretary, Anand Shirodkar as Treasurer and Serena Antao as Managing Committee member. Advocate Joe Antao who was the vice president in the outgoing managing committee was unanimously elected as the President. His name was proposed by the outgoing president John Douglas Coutinho and seconded by Alzira Pereira. Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott undertook a cycle expedition of the village on 19th April 2015 with 10 members and two prospective members cycling through Cavorim, Guirdolim and Chandor. The 12 cyclists cycled 35 kms in two hours and forty five minutes as the expedition that commenced at 6:30 am ended at 9:15 am. The 10 members were John Douglas Coutinho (president), Rui da Silva (vice president), Darwin Cardoso (treasurer), Basil Fernandes (MC member), Rossi Fernandes, Brian Fernandes, Babazinho Dias, Minush Gomes, Ligorio Fernandes, John Fernandes and the two prospective members were Andrison Pereira son of Anthony Pereira (MC member) and Emerson Britto son of Irene Antao (MC member). Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott completed the beautification of the traffic island in front of the Church on the eve of the Feast of Our Lady of Bethlehem which is celebrated on 6th January every year with much pomp and grandeur. As the tableau of the three wise men or three kings as they are known, is the highlight of this feast celebration, the traffic island was beautified with the theme of the three kings. Bust size pictures of the three kings are placed at an angle facing three sides of the roundabout. The entire traffic island is circled with three different circles made out of natural looking laterite stones. The gaps in between are covered with plants.
