Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott organized a cycle run from Patradevi on the Northern border of Goa to Polem on the Southern border. The 138 kms route was completed by the cyclists in 8:45 hours. The run started at 4:15 am from Patradevi. Honorary member of GBE Donald Mackenzie completed the entire trek 8:20 hours. Other members who cycled the entire route were GBE President John Douglas Coutinho and Joint Secretary Ashley Antao. Managing Committee member Benedito Fernandes who started the cycle run had to pull out due to the injury to his tail bone. He however bounced back to cycle from Canacona to Polem a grueling 24 kms distance. Hundreds of people gathered at St. Joseph’s Educational Institute, Chandor on 30th December not only to participate in the free multi specialty medical camp held but also to pay homage to late Dr. Vamona Sheldeker who served the residents of Assolda, Chandor, Cavorim and Guirdolim selflessly and with utmost dedication. At the programme held to commemorate Dr. Vamona’s birth centenary, a large crowd was present and many of them did not even take part in the medical camp. Guest of Honour Fr. X’Mas Party for Senior Citizens Chandor

Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott held its annual Christmas party for senior citizens of the parish of Chandor on 16th December 2012 at the St. Joseph’s Educational Institute courtyard. Altogether 119 senior citizens from the villages of Guirdolim, Chandor and Cavorim participated. The Brass Clan led by Tony Coutinho provided the entertainment which was much appreciated by the gathered crowd particularly as the group consisted of young boys playing the brass instruments. Besides, Everly Mascarenhas sang some songs in Konkani and English and while she also played the keyboard, her brother Presley Mascarenhas accompanied her on the saxophone. 3 in 1 prog. a hit Chandor

In collaboration with the Dalgado Konknni Akademi, an essay competition in Roman Konkani on the topic 2021-ant mhozo ganv Chandor was held on 13th November 2008. In all there were nine entries and the first prize went to Mrs. Brenda Savio D’Silva who gave a futuristic view of Chandor in 2021 painting a vivid picture of what amenities would be there in our village. Incidentally, she deserves kudos as though she thinks in English, she participated in this competition and really took great trouble. She first wrote the essay in English and then painstakingly translated it into Konkani, often referring to the English-Konkani dictionary. All of us should applaud this lady who can become a model for all those who claim that they are not very conversant with our mother...

Making our Roads Safe Gudi-Chandor

The government has notified that trucks are prohibited from plying on the Gudi-Chandor road. This has been the result of a concerted effort by Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott. Initially the issue was raised at a meeting held at Cotta and thereafter at Mena Cavorim with the local residents. Thereafter, this issue was raised at the Gram Sabha meeting held in August 2008 and the panchayat was asked to follow up the matter with the concerned authorities. Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott consistently followed up the matter with Maina Curtorim Police Inspector Dharmendra Angle who went out of his way to get this notification approved and published, a fact accepted by Cavorim-Chandor Sarpanch Derick.
