Agriculture Dept Meeting in Chandor 29-June-2012 Mrs. Janice Alphonso, Agriculture Officer attached to Zonal Agriculture Office, Margao of Agriculture Department, Government of Goa, conducted a meeting of farmers in the Chandor-Cavorim Panchayat hall on 29th June 2012. In a talk that lasted for over 60 minutes, she went through all the schemes available with the department in detail. Mrs. Alphonso very lucidly explained the various schemes to promote paddy cultivation ranging from preparing the field, sowing the seed, maintaining the crop with applications of manure, micro nutrients and pesticides and harvesting. The Chandor Cavorim Gram Sabha on Sunday condoled the death of Tourism Minister Matanhy Saldanha and also urged the new Panchayat body that will be elected not to rotate the chair of the Sarpanch between them for a certain period of time. The Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Subhash alias Rajan Naik emerged victorious from Cuncolim only on the strength of the votes that he polled in the Cuncolim Municipal Council and Balli Village Panchayat areas. While he trailed at third position in four panchayat areas and was in the second position at one, he swept the Balli Panchayat area.
