Govind Gaude’s promises galore

In keeping with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ache din slogan, Sports Minister Govind Gaude promised better days for football lovers from the twin villages of Chandor-Cavorim and Guirdolim by promising to carpet the football ground at Cavorim with a lawn and to provide a ground for Guirdolim once the panchayat takes possession of the site where it is proposed. He also assured both the villages that the railway level crossing connecting the two villages, whose closure has so irked both the villages that it has even figured at gram sabhas, will be kept open at certain periods to avoid inconveniencing people. Visiting sick & elderly in February

Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott visited 19 sick and elderly residents of the twin villages of Guirdolim and Chandor-Cavorim in the month of February. On Sunday, 4th February they visited 11 houses in Villa Formosa and were quite taken aback to note that five of the elderly persons live alone with only a maid coming everyday and attending to their needs. Birthday boy’s gift to village

While it is generally expected that anybody celebrating a birthday gets a gift from those who know him, Cavorim in Chandor is blessed with a person who gives a gift to the village on his birthday and that is none other than the very well known Menino Gomes more commonly known as Minush and fondly called Moon.   For the second consecutive year, Minush cleaned up his village on 1st February which is his birthday. The Annual General Body Meeting of Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott was held on 27th January from 6:55 pm onwards with 53 members participating. The meeting was held on the manicured lawns of founder member John Douglas Coutinho adjacent to the usual GBE meeting room. President John Fernandes in his brief welcome address appreciated the presence of founder President Rui da Silva who was present despite his health issues. Students view birds at Oilem Tollem

Students from Class 9 B of St Joseph’s Educational Institute, Chandor had a thrilling experience participating in the bird watching programme at Lagoa de Cima or Oilem Tollem in the village, which has been notified to be declared a wetland. The programme was organised jointly by Goa State Wetland Authority and Forest Department in preparation for the Bird Festival being observed from January 26 to 29. The Chandor-Cavorim Biodiversity Management Committee assited at the local level.
